The Soto Spark
The internet is an amazing place! I just had the most fantastic experience. I was able to ask one of my favorite authors a question about her upcoming books. It might sound silly but being able to hear directly from the author was magical! If you don’t already, you should follow your favorite authors on social media. Anytime I find a book that I fall in love with I search for them on Instagram and follow. You’ll be able to see their upcoming books, inside details to their writing, tour dates and sometimes they go live for questions!
Julie Soto, is another author that has her roots in fanfiction, just like Ali Hazelwood, from my last post. She has written both Dramione, and Reylo fanfiction. I have honestly read everything she has written. It was no surprise to me when she became a published author. Her writing is fantastic and can make you feel immediately invested in her vision.
Her debut novel, “Forget Me Not”, is a fantastic second chance/forced proximity romance. Her writing makes you root for both MCs, but really feel for their past and how they got to where they currently are. For more of my review on this book, read it here.
Her latest book, just released last week, “Not Another Love Song”, is also an amazing retelling from another Reylo story she wrote. This one centered around the New York Pops Orchestra and supports an enemies to lovers trope. Again look for a future review.
With all that said, I was able to ask Julie about her next novel, “Rose In Chains”, that news of it’s publishing was dropped into the fanfic community last week out of no where. With the author herself posting a short summary and saying, “Yes, this is what you think it is”. For those not in the know, Julie, aka LovesBitca8, has written a ton of Fan fiction for Dramione, Draco Malfoy & Hermione Granger. If you haven’t ready this sort of thing you might be saying “WHAT!?” But if you are reading this chances are you’re into the “villain gets the girl” trope, so trust me, it works. Draco is totally redeemable, in SO many ways. As many fanfic authors have proven time and again. (perhaps I’ll need to write a post about all the great Dramione fanfics out there)
All that to say, her Rights & Wrong series from ao3 is my ALL TIME favorite story, fanfic or otherwise. Her new novel is taking “The Auction”, which is part 3 of the 3 story series. It’s an alternate ending to the Harry Potter series where in Voldi wins, and what happens after. Her other 2 stories in this series are a happier, brighter version, that continues the Happy Potter story following Hermione and Draco after the good side wins. “The Auction”, is the alternate reality of the other two stories. It’s a DARK romance, and will have a few trigger warnings, but it’s SO good!! I can’t wait to read the new world that Julie has built for these characters and be able to fall into a story where I totally forget that it was Draco and Hermione, and believe that Briony and Toven is all there ever were. We have a while to wait as it isn’t due to be released until next July. But I will be the first in line when it is!
